PEDAGOGY

My work as a scholar and dancer represents a hybrid synergy of diverse ways of knowing.  I start from the premise that knowledge is honed and disseminated through multiple channels and therefore approach my role as an educator and artist with that same level of creative dexterity and openness.  In terms of my African diaspora dance practice, it embodies a fusion of folk and modern idioms informed by diverse sacred systems. What emerges from this encounter of traditions, expressions, histories, embodied memories and sacred cartographies is a movement vocabulary that is both subtle and dynamic and one that elaborates on balancing the duality of power that exists within the feminine and masculine, the mundane and the divine.
